HAUSBRAID vs Square Appointments

Square Appointments is Square’s booking app, free with Square payments and built around its point of sale. HAUSBRAID is built for braiders: your clients call, text and DM as they always have, and each one is written up for your tap.

  • 15 days free, no card to start
  • Never a cut of your bookings
  • Bring your clients across from Square Appointments

Credit where due

What Square Appointments does well.

  • A free plan with unlimited staff calendars, if you take cards through Square.
  • One system for bookings, the register, inventory and your bank, with next-day deposits.
  • Your own booking site and Book Now buttons, with prepayment on the free plan.
  • Hardware for the chair and the counter.

Where it differs

Where a braider feels the difference.

  1. Free, with Square’s rates

Square Appointments: The $0 plan carries 2.6% + 15¢ in person and 3.3% + 30¢ online. No-show fees and a cancellation policy that charges need Plus, at $49 a month per location.

HAUSBRAID: $20 a month, with deposits in it. Keep taking payments through your own Square account.

  2. The phone and the DMs

Square Appointments: No voice. Square Assistant texts clients to confirm or reschedule; Instagram gets a Book Now button.

HAUSBRAID: A line for each braider, the voice assistant when the braider can’t pick up, and every DM written up for your tap.

  3. A register, or a braider’s week

Square Appointments: Square knows a sale: it doesn’t know a knotless takes five hours and two packs of 1B.

HAUSBRAID: Services carry size and length with their time and price; the shelf knows what runs out when, and To do says what to reorder.

Questions

Switching from Square Appointments.

Can I bring my Square clients to HAUSBRAID?

Yes. When you set up, sign in to Square and your clients, services and upcoming bookings come across.

Can I keep taking payments with Square?

Yes. Connect your Square account and deposits and payments keep landing there, at Square’s rate.

Square Appointments is free. Why pay $20?

For what Square doesn’t do: a line for each braider, the voice assistant when the braider can’t pick up, Instagram DMs written up, and a morning list of what’s worth money. If a free calendar is all you need, Square is a fine one.

Does HAUSBRAID have a register?

No. It takes deposits and payments through your Square or Stripe account and sends pay links; the counter stays Square’s.
